The Rural CODE (Communities Organized for Drug Elimination) is a coalition of New Paradigm Partners funded by a federal Drug Free Communities Grant. This group is using a community organizing model program called Communities Mobilized for Change on Alcohol (CMCA) to reduce youth access to alcohol and other drugs. Part of the project will also include parent education as well as changing social and community norms regarding youth alcohol and drug use.
New Auburn has targeted parents with their Rural CODE activities. Currently underway is a parent resource room located at New Auburn School. It will be stocked with books, pamphlets, videos and much more. The facts show that youth often obtain access to alcohol from the refrigerator at home. The New Auburn part of the coalition hopes to raise awareness among parents and reduce this type of access to alcohol by youth.
