This initiative is addressing impaired driving among the 16-34 population group in Washburn County. It is being implemented by the local coalition of New Paradigm Parnters - the Rural CODE (Communities Organized for Drug Elimination) Coalition.

According to our student surveys half of our high school students get it at a friend house and 1/3 of the middle school youth report the same. As a result of the easy access and low perceived risk, the Rural CODE coalition is also addressing environmental strategies that reduce youth access to alcohol and shift norms regarding underage drinking.

Why does NPP care about this issue? Risky behaviors, like underage drinking and other drug use, have a direct impact on student achievement. We care that our students succeed in school!
